“My art is where I go to live my life completely on my own terms.”

Extreme Hobby: The Freedom to Color Outside the Lines

Life as a dentist can be stressful at times, making it important for clinicians to find ways to relax and recharge during their off hours. To inspire you to do just that, we’re featuring dentists with “extreme” hobbies. These dentists take their down time seriously, and know how important it is to unwind every now and then.

Dr. Lisa Germain uses art as her outlet—creating fun, unique shoes that “represent love, friendship and shared memories.” The New Orleans based endodontist first started dabbling in shoe design about 10 years ago as part of a Mardi Gras related activity with the Krewe of Muses, the first all-female Mardi Gras krewe to parade at night in uptown New Orleans. Today, she gives her creations as gifts to the people she cares about.

"As an endodontist, I am precision bound to the millimeter. But as an artist, I have the freedom to create with passion and daring. I can color outside the lines to my heart’s content without fear, shame, obligation, or limits. My art is where I go to live my life completely on my own terms. There are no rules or rulers. These shoe creations are just one medium that I use to express myself.”

    -Dr. Lisa Germain
