Dr. Drew Ferris and his team recently completed this “2-in-1” project, which connects their pediatric dental practice to their orthodontic practice. Vision
When embarking on this endeavor, Dr. Drew Ferris envisioned a unique, modern, and state-of-the-art dental experience catering to pediatric and orthodontic patients. After purchasing a building, the team strategically divided it into three distinct suites: one leased to a bank as a tenant, one for their pediatric dental practice, Santa Barbara Children's Dentistry, and one for their orthodontic practice, Ferris Orthodontic Group.
The overarching goal was to design technologically advanced spaces that are also beautiful, warm, and inviting. The team wanted to ensure that patients of all ages felt comfortable and cared for from the moment they stepped inside. The design blends clean, modern lines and finishes while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere that appeals to children, teenagers, and adults alike. “Ultimately, we aimed to reflect our commitment to excellence in patient care and patient experience through the physical environment of our offices,” explained Dr. Drew Ferris.
2-in-1
The two practices operate independently but are connected through a shared lab for maximum efficiency. While both offices have a cohesive design aesthetic, they are tailored to meet the unique needs of their respective patient demographics:
Santa Barbara Children's Dentistry (Pediatric Dental Office): This office is designed to create a fun, engaging, and comforting environment for younger patients. They’ve included TVs on the ceilings to distract and entertain during treatment, as well as a dedicated kids' zone featuring toys, books, prizes, and interactive elements to make visits fun and enjoyable for both patients and their parents/caregivers. This helps reduce any anxiety and makes dental appointments something kids can look forward to.
Ferris Orthodontic Group (Orthodontic Office): This side is designed to cater to patients of all ages, from teens to adults. Features include a sleek iPad bar for tech-savvy patients, a deluxe Jura coffee machine for parents and adult patients, and a candy wall that adds a touch of fun. The layout is optimized for efficiency, integrating cutting-edge technology to streamline patient care while ensuring a welcoming and comfortable experience.
The combined space for both practices spans approximately 3,200 square feet, thoughtfully designed to maximize efficiency and functionality while maintaining a spacious, open feel and avoiding the typical crowded or clinical atmosphere often associated with dental offices.
The flow of both offices is centered around leveraging technology to optimize efficiency and patient experience, delivering high-quality care while ensuring patients feel at ease. The combined practices include 10 operatories and a dedicated treatment presentation room in each office.
